Launching the ‘Unlocking Potential’ report

Thursday, June 9, 2011

A new report, Unlocking Potential: perspectives on women in science, engineering & science, was launched in the British Academy on Wednesday 8th June. The report was edited by Meg Munn MP and contains a series of contributions exploring the enormous potential for the UK to meet the skills shortage in the science, engineering and technology sectors by increasing the number of women working in these fields.

Speakers at the launch included Meg Munn MP, Arlene McConnell (IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year), Stephen Tetlow (Chief Executive, Institution of Mechanical Engineers), and Professor Christine Davies (Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Institute of Physics). Following the speakers there was a general debate involving many of those in attendance.

Published by the Smith Institute, the report was supported by three of the main professional organisations in these fields: the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Physics.

Unlocking Potential: perspectives on women in science, engineering & science is available to read at: http://www.smith-institute.org.uk/file/Women%20in%20SET.pdf
