Helping to feed the homeless

Friday, September 23, 2011

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn recently joined the team feeding the homeless at the Cathedral Archer Project in the heart of the city. She helped out for a morning session and helped serve breakfast for over 50 people and was then taken on a tour of the facility by CEO Tim Renshaw. They discussed the range of services provided as well as issues the centre may face in the difficult economic situation.

The Cathedral Archer Project offers a high quality service to people from a variety of backgrounds associated with homelessness, including rough sleepers, drug and alcohol addicts, women street workers, probation clients, asylum seekers and refugees. With the right support most will be able to establish secure lifestyles free from drugs and alcohol and the problems that accompany them.

Each year the project provides in excess of 10,500 hot breakfasts, as well as a host of other services. Available at the centre are education sessions, laundry services, showers, housing and benefits advice and support, food parcels and a postal address for those of no fixed abode.

Meg said:

“I was pleased to visit the Archer Project and enjoyed serving breakfast to many of the service users. The help support and advice provided by the project is very valuable and without such a service, the lives of these vulnerable people would be substantially worse.”
