Thanking the Posties!

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

The Sheffield South Delivery Office, off Woodseats Road, is having the busiest time of the year just now and local MP Meg Munn called in to thank the posties for their hard work. She was shown round the facility by local manager Robert Mawkes and was introduced to the postmen and women there.

The 90 staff based at the Sheffield South Delivery Office usually deal with around 280,000 items per week, which increases to 350,000 items per week over the Christmas period. The national Christmas mailbag is estimated to be around 2 billion items, which will be collected and delivered this year.

Meg commented:

“I was pleased to meet some of the hard-working Royal Mail postmen and women at Sheffield South Delivery Office and to see at first hand just how much effort they put into delivering the Christmas post for people at this time of year.

“Posties do such an important job and I thanked them for their efforts and wish them all the best over the festive period.”

Robert Mawkes, Royal Mail Delivery Office Manager said:

“Christmas is the busiest time of year and our people really do pull out all the stops to deliver the Christmas mailbag. We are pleased that Meg Munn MP came along to witness the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”
