World War One commemoration

Monday, January 30, 2012

The 1914-1918 World War was called the ‘war to end wars’, but unfortunately this was not to be. The five museums in the Imperial War Museums group are marking the upcoming 100 year anniversary with a four-year cultural programme.

This programme of events includes an exhibition at Imperial War Museum North, which is located in Manchester. They will have learning activities, family history events, loans to other museums and institutions and online projects: http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-north

The Imperial War Museums group are also running a Centenary Partnership programme, which may be of interest to local groups and organisations that have ideas for projects around the centenary: http://www.1914.org/partners/

The Heritage Lottery Fund website also has information about grants for projects relevant to the centenary, to find out more visit:

“The 2014-2018 Centenary of the First World War will be marked worldwide. The Imperial War Museum is leading Britain’s commemorations and is providing information for local groups and organisations who wish to mark the centenary.”
