ANZAC Day 2012

Thursday, April 26, 2012

On a very wet day Meg Munn MP took part in the commemoration of Anzac Day, which honours Australian and New Zealand armed forces who have served and died in military operations. The laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph in Whitehall was followed by a service in Westminster Abbey.

Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and is held every 25th April, originally established as a national day of remembrance to honour the members of ANZAC who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The day is a national public holiday in both Australia and New Zealand, with local as well as national events.

Meg commented:

“It was a moving ceremony as we honoured the armed forces of Australia and New Zealand, two of our closest allies.”
