In the hot seat talking politics

Friday, June 22, 2012

Heeley MP Meg Munn had a busy media day recently when she was invited into the ‘hot seat’ at Radio Sheffield for an hour-long interview with presenter Rony Robinson about her work as a local MP. This was followed by a trip to Leeds to record the regional programme slot for the BBC Sunday Politics show.

During the Radio Sheffield interview Meg discussed a range of issues including her support for women working in science, engineering and technology. Rony and Meg discussed the business conference, which Meg had attended in Barnsley that morning, and Meg took part in a live phone-in with Radio Sheffield listeners. The interview was part of a series which Rony is running with local MPs from across South Yorkshire.

Meg said:

“Local radio matters. It plays an important role in highlighting local stories and offers the chance to hold politicians and those in the public sector to account. It is always a pleasure to be interviewed by Rony and I enjoyed my time in the hot seat.”

At the Sunday Politics recording presenter Tim Iredale discussed the latest political news with Meg and other guests from across the region. Stories included the Communications Data Bill, High Speed Rail 2, cuts to the Army, plus how local police forces and councils are managing with reduced government funding.

Meg said:

“Having a regional slot as part of the Sunday Politics show helps to highlight how national issues, like government cuts, are affecting our area. It was good to have the opportunity to take part in the programme and discuss some of the issues of the week with colleagues and campaigners.”
