Meg first MP to be awarded Chartered Manager status

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Sheffield Heeley MP, Meg Munn, is the first MP to be awarded Chartered Manager status, which recognises the achievements of professional managers and leaders in the UK. She was presented with the award by the Chartered Management Institute in Parliament this week.

Chartered Manager is the highest status that can be achieved in the managerial profession. Awarded only by the Chartered Management Institute, it is recognised throughout the public and private sectors and across all management disciplines.

A trained social worker, Meg has extensive management experience in Social Services including, prior to be elected as an MP, holding the position of Assistant Director for Children’s Services in York with responsibility for a budget of over 6 million and over 150 staff. Meg also currently holds a Certificate and Diploma in Management Studies.

Meg is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Management, who held an event in Parliament this week where the government launched a new evidence paper Leadership and Management in the UK: the Key to Sustainable Growth. The paper collates the growing evidence about the UK’s relative weaknesses in the critical skills of management and leadership, as well as the resulting impact on growth. The event highlighted the latest developments in policy and debated the most effective routes to transforming employer attitudes to investment in these critical skills.

Meg said:

“I am delighted to be awarded Chartered Manager status by the Chartered Management Institute. Management and leadership skills are crucial towards achieving growth and I hope the paper presented in Parliament this week will provide a valuable resource for employers and others working in this area.”

Ann Francke, Chief Executive, Chartered Management Institute said:

“Meg is leading by example when it comes to improving the UK’s management and leadership. We need to convince the UK’s employers that growing the number and quality of professional managers makes outstanding commercial sense. As well as proving that they make an impact at work, Chartered Managers are, by definition, signed up to an ethical code of conduct at a time when putting ethics back into business is an imperative for UK plc. Many congratulations to Meg.”
