Sheffield’s specialist engineers

Monday, August 13, 2012

Meg Munn MP was invited by local business woman Anne Wilson for a tour of the Numill factory. The Sheffield engineering company design, manufacture and restore specialist cutting tools for industry and serve clients from across the UK and Europe.

Anne Wilson, Managing Director of Numill, is also a Freeman of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire and is one of twenty women who have qualified for this honour. Numill currently has 19 staff, including two apprentices, and serves clients ranging from small engineering firms to high profile, blue chip companies, particularly from the automotive & aerospace sectors.

Meg said:

“It was fascinating to see how these specialist items are designed and manufactured right here in Sheffield. The products form a crucial part of many industrial processes, including for the oil and gas industries. I understand that there are only two other companies in Europe who are producing these specialist tools, so it’s great to see them being made in our city.”

The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire is made up of around 450 Freemen who qualify for Freedom as being a director or senior executive of a relevant organisation; engaged in the production of, or research in support of, manufactured items; within a defined geographical area.
