MP Encouraged by changes at Springs

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Local MP, Meg Munn, has held recent meetings in Westminster and Sheffield to discuss work underway to turn around the fortunes of Sheffield Springs Academy.

The secondary school, which is in the MP’s constituency, has a number of issues to address, having had low GCSE results and a high turnover of teachers. The school is run by United Learning and the MP met its Chief Executive in Westminster to raise concerns and seek reassurance over progress that was being made.

The MP also met the school’s new Headteacher, Russell Heritage, and his senior team at the school. At the meeting the team discussed their shared determination to make the school an outstanding school, and their commitment to pupils and parents.

Meg Munn said:

“I am expecting United Learning to make the differences to this school that they have long promised, however I am encouraged by what I have heard. I wanted to understand what was changing at the school and what staff believed was going to make a difference this time around.

I was particularly impressed with the work that Russell and his team have committed to undertake. The team seem to have a good understanding of the challenges ahead, and are committed to making the school outstanding for pupils and the community. I have given them my backing, but I will continue to monitor the situation at Sheffield Springs Academy closely.”
