South Yorkshire young engineers meet in Parliament

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

Meg Munn MP invited young engineers from three leading South Yorkshire companies to a meeting in Parliament recently. The young engineers from Gripple, Sheffield Forgemasters and AESSEAL, joined parliamentarians at a meeting with Sir John Parker, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the House of Lords.

Engineering Apprentice, Joe Bedford, Apprentice Forge Estimator, Daviyd Franckeiss, and Graduate Trainee Engineer, Chris Gardner, attended the All-Party Parliamentary engineering meeting to represent their companies. They joined in a lively discussion about the future of engineering and met other young engineers from across the country.

The visit gave the young engineers the opportunity to meet people in the same sector, discuss issues in the engineering world with MPs and Peers as well as gain a broader understanding of the work of Parliament.

Meg said:

“It was fantastic to have representation from three outstanding South Yorkshire based companies at this meeting and great to meet some of our local young engineers, who represent the future of this important industry. All of the young engineers were a real credit to their organisations and I wish them every success in their engineering careers. I hope they enjoyed their visit and found it useful.”

The All-Party Parliamentary Engineering Group meeting was held in the House of Lords in November. Sir John Parker, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, led the discussion and made an excellent speech highlighting the importance of engineering to the UK economy and the exciting opportunities that are now available for those embarking on an engineering career.
