Opportunities to create

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Meg Munn MP recently met representatives from The Heritage Lottery Fund, who are the largest funder of the UK’s inheritance. The organisation announced a new user-friendly grant application as part of their plans for 2013-2018. The new interface will focus on project outcomes so that applicants can more easily express what they want to accomplish without the difficulties of a bureaucratic form.

In addition the Heritage Lottery Fund is currently working with the Imperial War Museum to encourage organisations to pursue commemorative projects for 2014 to mark the anniversary of the start of the First World War.

The Fund has around 375 million a year to invest in programs to help people better understand their heritage and want to invest in local projects.  In the past year, over 53,000 was awarded in Sheffield Heeley constituency: projects such as the Heeley City Farm’s “Exploring Tinsley Manor” program and the Heeley History Workshop’s “Social Life in Heeley and Thereabouts,” which aims to develop an “Archive of Social Life.”

Meg said:

“I’m please that the Heritage Lottery Fund can provide opportunities to create long term and meaningful changes in the lives of people and in our communities. It’s important that local stories and histories of communities are not lost; we must ensure they can be recorded to be appreciated by generations to come.

I’d encourage as many as can to explore the opportunities on the Fund’s website to see if the resources they can contribute can be productively used in Heeley.”

Resources provided by The Heritage Lottery Fund can be used for essential equipment and materials, the cost of writing or producing educational resources, travel costs within the UK, training for volunteers, or fees for freelance workers.
