Understanding your future career

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Meg Munn MP co-sponsored a Bill in the House of Commons to make it easier for students in schools to find out about careers in science, technology and engineering. The Bill also calls on schools and the Department for Education to provide opportunities for pupils to gain such understanding.

The Ten Minute Rule Bill gives MPs the opportunity to make their case for a change in legislation in a speech lasting up to ten minutes. An opposing speech may also be made before the House of Commons decide whether or not the Bill should be introduced. The ‘Science, Technology and Engineering (Careers Information in Schools)’ Bill was agreed by those present and is due to have its second reading on 1st March 2013.

Meg said:

“I have been campaigning for several years for more emphasis on improving the understanding by students of science, engineering and technology.  We need these sectors in the economy to grow; we need our young people to have fulfilling and successful careers. I am very pleased to have co-sponsored this Bill.”
