Launching Infrastructure North

Friday, April 5, 2013

Recently Meg Munn MP attended the launch of a new report entitled “Infrastructure North”. The report summarised research undertaken by the University of Leeds and Edge Analytics aimed at identifying the role that companies play in the economy of the region and how they can support economic regeneration. It was compiled by four utility companies operating across the North of England.

During a period of economic difficulty meeting the challenges of climate change, supplying energy and providing water is crucial to the future growth of the region. The four companies, Yorkshire Water, Northern Gas Networks, Northern PowerGrid and Northumbrian Water together serve a combined population of 8.3 million people and employ over 8,000 people and invest over 2 billion per year in capital and operational expenditure. Spanning the whole of Yorkshire and the North East, as well as parts of North Lincolnshire, North Derbyshire and Cumbria they cover nearly a fifth of all the land in England.

Meg said:

“This is a fascinating report that helps us understand the scale and importance of the day to day work and investment of these four companies in our region. It is intended to serve as a base line for future co-operation for the benefit of domestic and business customers. I welcome this collaboration and trust it will support much needed regeneration.”
