Discussing the proposed civil justice reforms

Friday, April 12, 2013

Irwin Mitchell solicitors in Sheffield invited Meg Munn MP to visit their office to discuss the government’s proposed civil justice reforms.  She met Matt Currie, National Managing Partner (Motor), and Jonathan Scarsbrook, a Partner in the firm, and they talked about a number of recent measures including reducing the number of whiplash claims to help reduce car insurance premiums. The government’s consultation on this issue was held between 11th December 2012 to 8th March 2013, and a response is expected this spring.

Meg said:

“It was useful to meet staff at Irwin Mitchell to understand more about the details of the recent proposals and how they might affect individuals.  Obviously bringing the cost of motor insurance policies down is something we would all like to see, however we need to ensure there are no unintended consequences which might adversely affect genuine claimants or put undue pressure on our small claims courts.  We also need to ensure that the government puts in place measures which mean that any savings will benefit drivers through lower car insurance.”
