Meg backs children’s charity SAFE@LAST

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Sheffield Heeley MP, Meg Munn, has backed children and young people’s charity SAFE@LAST’s national agenda that recognises the risks faced by 100,000 children who run away from home every year. Tracy Haycox, Director of Children and Young People’s Services, recently met Meg to discuss the work of the charity and the need for services for young runaways.

After the success of the Reach Evaluation, a year-long independent review which highlights the success and importance of SAFE@LAST’s services for young runaways, the charity is asking for support for their work.

Meg said:

“SAFE@LAST provide vital services to some of our most vulnerable young people. Reducing the number of young people who run away and helping children who run away repeatedly to get the support they need does keep young people safe. I am delighted to endorse their work to deliver services in line with the national action plan and will continue to work in Westminster to ensure support for the work of SAFE@LAST.”

Tracy Haycox, SAFE@LAST Director of Children and Young People’s Services said:

“We’re very grateful to all our local MPs’ for giving us the opportunity to highlight and discuss the success of our work with them.

A major concern is that many of the young people we work with do not realise the dangers they are exposing themselves to until it’s too late. SAFE@LAST aims to support young people to stay safe and reduce running away in South Yorkshire.  We need the support of MPs to ensure that the voices of young runaways are heard locally, regionally and nationally.”
