In the frame for foster children

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Meg Munn MP put herself in the frame to encourage constituents to consider becoming foster carers to some of the area’s most vulnerable children.

There are more than 62,000 children living with 50,000 foster families in the UK and the Fostering Network estimates that at least 9,000 new foster families are needed in 2013 alone. In particular there’s a real need to find foster carers for sibling groups.

Foster Care Fortnight, the annual awareness campaign run by the Fostering Network, is aiming to support fostering services across the UK - this year the campaign runs from 13th to 26th May. The Fostering Network is the leading charity for all those involved in foster care, and exists to make life better for fostered children and the families that care for them.

Meg said:

“We need to look at the needs of individual young people and support them as long as it takes.”

To see her talking about foster care visit:

Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled that Meg has put herself in the frame for Foster Care Fortnight. It shows that she recognises the need to make sure that the children and young people of Sheffield Heeley who most need support, love and care have it.”

If you think that you have the skills to foster, find your local fostering service visit:
