Meeting Tomorrow’s Engineers

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Meg Munn MP paid a visit to the Advanced Manufacturing Resource Centre (AMRC) for ‘Tomorrow’s Engineers Week’ an initiative aimed at showcasing the exciting careers available to engineering students.

The AMRC Training Centre provides training in the practical and academic skills that manufacturing companies need to compete globally, from apprenticeship through to doctorate and MBA level.

During her visit, Alison Bettac, the Director of Training, introduced Meg to some of the AMRC apprentices who demonstrated their practical skills in manual machining. She also observed classroom sessions in equality and diversity, driving awareness and business administration.

Meg was delighted to hear about AMRC’s exciting plans for the future, with work due to be completed on a new build by January 2014 with 60 new apprentices joining in April.

Meg said:

“The Advanced Manufacturing Resource Centre is led by a team of industrialists who have experienced the challenges of developing world-class talent, and learning specialists who understand the requirements of the manufacturing sector.

The addition of 60 new apprentices next year is testament to how well respected the AMRC is amongst local engineering employers, and goes to show the wealth of opportunities available for our young people who are considering an engineering career.”
