Big Bang in the Commons

Monday, December 2, 2013

The ‘Big Bang’ Fair was held recently in the House of Commons as part of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week and Meg Munn MP went to see some of the country’s most exciting young engineers.  She was particularly interested to meet pupils from the John Warner School in Hertfordshire who explained the science used in turning waste into cycle tyres.

The Big Bang brings science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) alive for young people. The schools and colleges represented demonstrated their own engineering projects and innovations, which have won awards in their local regions and will be competing in the finals of the National Science + Engineering Competition at The Big Bang Fair 2014.

Meg said:

“It was exciting to see so many talented young people but we need to encourage more young people to take science, technology engineering and mathematical subjects, especially girls. My conviction is that Britain can only succeed if we nurture and encourage the talent all our young people have, and ensure they are able to be the best they can be.”
