War Veterans Big Lottery Fund

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, is supporting The Big Lottery Fund as it celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings through its ‘Heroes Return 2’ Programme.

The Programme has so far been helping hundreds of Second World War Veterans make commemorative visits to the places they served, and is currently looking for more veterans who would like to take part in the scheme.

Grants are being offered to Veterans from the UK, Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland, with up to 8,140 available. This money will help to pay for travel and accommodation costs for the veterans, as well as for their spouses and carers who may wish to accompany them.

To date, over 28 million has been awarded to more than 57,000 veterans, as well as their widows, spouses and carers, for journeys that have been made to the UK, France, Germany, the Middle East, Far East and beyond.

Meg is also pleased to learn that the programme has recently been extended, so if veterans have already made one commemorative visit that was funded by the Big Lottery Fund, it is now possible for them to apply to make a second trip!

Meg said:

“I am delighted to be supporting this campaign. It gives veterans a fantastic opportunity to revisit the places where they served and is a great way to remember the important events of the Second World War.”

If you are a veteran living in the UK, (or if you know someone that is), you can find the details of the scheme and the application form on the Big Lottery Fund website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/heroesreturn,

Or by calling the Heroes Return helpline 0845 0000 121.
