the Global Gateway - a new international website - linking schools to the rest of the world

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Meg Munn MP is supporting a new website that has just been launched called the Global Gateway.

She believes it will be a valuable resource for schools, teachers, pupils, governors, education authorities and parents and hopes that it will be visited often.

“Children and young people are increasingly interested in international affairs and the wider world, they care very much about children in other countries and how they live their lives. This site is one way to bring the world’s children and young people closer together.”

www.globalgateway.org.uk

Linking schools to the rest of the world, the Global Gateway is a new international website enabling those involved in education across the world to engage in creative partnerships. It is a one-stop shop, providing quick access to comprehensive information on how to develop an international dimension to education.

It will ensure that education crosses national boundaries and that young people become true global citizens and will provide access to accredited information and resources via a series of tailored customer journeys, which are easily set up and amended as required.

The Global Gateway is for everyone involved in education - teachers, school leaders, pupils, governors, education authorities and parents, providing comprehensive, quality-assured information and links to resources and activities that will help raise standards in education.

The Global Gateway provides access to over 400 accredited websites, representing more than 1,500 referenced links. More websites and information will be added through continuous development of the site - by the British Council for the Department for Education and Skills.

The gateway:

? links to many other international education websites;

? has a powerful search facility for the accredited and categorised information and links - find the information you need in 3 clicks or less;

? links to best practice in international projects and curriculum partnerships;

? links to professional development for teachers, school leaders and educational authorities;

? has live expert advice online;

? has regularly-updated education news about international activities;

? customised registered users home page.
