Former Sheffield school girl celebrates wonderful news for Sheffield Schools

Tuesday, March 26, 2002

Labour Government to invest many millions of pounds in the rebuilding of 5 Sheffield schools

A substantial PFI (Private Finance Initiative) project has been successful submitted to the Government which provides for the rebuilding or refurbishment of Meadowhead, Westfield and High Storrs Secondary Schools as well as Grenoside and Bracken Hill Primary Schools.

Meg Munn, Labour and Co-operative Party MP for Sheffield Heeley celebrating the news today said

"Meadowhead School was formed from the former Jordanthorpe School, and is based in its buildings, and Rowlinson School (now Norton College) where I went from 1970 to 1977. I feel like the Labour government is rebuilding my old school and I am absolutely thrilled. I was particularly pleased as a linguist that Meadowhead School was also awarded specialist language status last summer.

Education is fundamental if young people are to have a wide range of opportunities in the future and it is high time the days of buckets catching drips of rain while children and teachers are crammed in glorified caravans trying to study were over. At last with the Labour Government the need for a high quality environment for learning has been recognised. This is good news for the teachers, pupils and parents of Meadowhead Secondary School and of all of the schools who will now be able to take part in twenty first century education in a twenty first century building."
