Meg supports ‘School Pledge’ for the Deaf

Thursday, October 14, 2004

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn is supporting the National Deaf Children’s Society with its new ‘Deaf Friendly Schools Pledge’. Over 900 schools across the UK have signed up to the ten point pledge which aims to help improve communication and improve schools accessibility for deaf children

Meg said,

“This is a fantastic initiative from the National Deaf Children’s Society which I am really pleased to support. Deaf children need to be part of the whole school community, on equal footing with their hearing friends”.

The Pledge is part of the National Deaf Children’s Society celebration of 60 years work.  Schools who have signed up to the pledge receive a free pack containing advice, hints and tips on each of the ten points in the Pledge.

Meg has also attended the launch of the new ‘Listening Bus’ - which replaces the existing bus launched in 1996. Since then it has received 500,000 visitors as it covered 125,000 miles. This new bus is larger and will tour hundreds of schools allowing deaf children to lean about technology which can help them communicate.
