MPs celebrate success of Adoption Register

Sunday, September 4, 2005

Politicians and social workers joined together at a reception in Leeds recently to celebrate the success of the Adoption Register for England and Wales. In all sixty-eight children have been matched with permanent families since last December when the British Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) took over management of the Adoption Register.

Whilst attending the reception Meg Munn said,

‘I am delighted with the success of the Adoption Register and the work of the BAAF. Adoption is an opportunity for children who are in care to become part of a loving family, important for every child. However adopting can often be a heart-breaking experience and any way of making the process easier has to be welcomed.’

Most of the children referred to the register have complex needs and backgrounds and no suitable adoptive families are available in their local area. Children who have already found a loving family using the register are brothers and sisters who have to stay together, older children and children from minority ethnic backgrounds.
