Labour Conference Sweet for Meg

Monday, October 3, 2005

Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, attended a cookery lesson at this week’s Labour Party Conference in Brighton under the supervision of a trainee chef from a local College.

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC), the body that exists to make England better skilled and more competitive, arranged for trainee chefs to be available at the conference to give MPs a taste of on-the-job training.

Nathan Brewer 17, a trainee chef at City College Brighton & Hove encouraged Meg to don a chef’s hat and create delicious desserts and pastries.

Meg Munn said:

“Learning from a trainee is a great way of seeing just how much experience is gained during on the job training.  Training for a highly-skilled vocational qualification can bring real benefits to our local economy in Sheffield and I encourage local businesses to get on board.”

Teacher for the day, trainee chef Nathan said:

“It was really fun teaching an MP how to do something I do every day. I hope it helps them understand how hard we students work to become fully qualified.”

LSC Chairman Chris Banks said:

“Vocational training is a valuable way for young people to gain skills and knowledge. It enables them to prepare for a career while make Britain economically competitive.”
