Visiting the Alzheimer’s Society

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

Heeley MP Meg Munn recently visited the local branch of the Alzheimer Society. Whilst there Meg discussed their campaign to retain and extend dementia drug treatment on the NHS. Meg met Branch Manager Judith Gregory and Information Advice and Website Support Manager Andrea Welch who explained the current campaign.

They plan to lobby the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) who are reviewing the cost-benefit of current dementia drug treatments. NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health on the NHS.

Meg said,

‘Having previously worked in social services and knowing relatives and friends who have suffered from dementia, I was keen to learn more about the Alzheimer’s Society current campaign. I will be writing to NICE as part of the current consultation.’
