Meg trains for Charity Swim

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

Preparing for the ‘Speedo Charity Swim 2006’, Meg Munn joined Sheffield City Swimming Club at their recent swimming session. Meg, Sheffield Heeley MP, is determined to win in this very competitive race, and the swimming club have been doing their bit to make sure she is well prepared.

The charity swim is in aid of the Women Caring Trust. It’s one of the premier events of the charity and political calendar, attended by 450 guests all hoping to raise a substantial amount for the charity.

Meg said:

‘I am looking forward to this years swim; I will be doing one of my favourite sports whilst also helping a worthy cause. I’m grateful to Sheffield City Swimming Club for letting me train with them; I just about managed to keep up with the 10 year olds who were very impressive.’

‘The Women Caring Trust makes a significant difference to the lives of children and young people in Northern Ireland. They have been adversely affected by the division between the different communities. This charity swim will help them continue to carry out their commendable work.’

There are a number of races - the inter-House of Commons race between Labour and the Conservatives, the fiercely contested House of Commons vs the House of Lords race, a celebrity charity race, and a race between senior political journalists - all taking place on Wednesday 7th June in the Porchester Hall in London.
