Choosing a new Leadership Team

Friday, May 11, 2007

With the announcement by Tony Blair and John Prescott that they will stand down as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister at the end of June a process has started for the Labour Party to chose a new leadership team. Meg will be nominating Gordon Brown for Leader and Hazel Blears for Deputy Leader.

Gordon Brown

Meg said:

“Gordon will make an excellent Prime Minister. I am particularly impressed by his commitment to ending child poverty both in this country and around the world. Last week he visited a children's centre in my constituency and he spent a lot of time both with the children and their parents. Better services and equal chances for all children is something that I have campaigned for and I know that Gordon will continue to give this a priority.”

Hazel Blears

Meg said:

“Hazel is a natural campaigner who works very hard. She connects with people, understands their worries and responds to them in a no nonsense way. She's Labour through and through and, as Chair of the party, has shown members matter.  Hazel will make a great deputy leader.”
