Helping Working People

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

New regulations published today will help up to 500,000 people in Yorkshire and the Humber receive eight extra days annual holiday, with the first step of an extra four days holiday starting in October. In line with the Warwick agreement between the Government and trade unions, the minimum holiday entitlement will be boosted from 20 days a year to 24 days this October, and to 28 days from April 2009. The extra holidays will benefit up to 6 million workers across Britain, including 3.5million women and 2.5million men.

Heeley MP Meg Munn said:

“I am delighted that these additional holiday days have been announced. They will help many working families in Heeley, making it easier to balance work with family responsibilities.  In addition it ensures that the most vulnerable workers have core employment rights to protect them from abuses.”

“This extra time off will make a huge difference to hard-working people - a proper rest from work and more time to spend with families and friends.”
