Meg moves to the Foreign Office

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

In the Prime Minister’s first reshuffle Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn has taken up a position in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as Parliamentary under Secretary of State.

Meg said:

‘I am delighted with my new role in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The Government has achieved a huge amount since 1997 and is in a strong position to help tackle the issues of the under-development of Africa, climate change and international terrorism.

I look forward to working with colleagues and others in my new position. I want to thank those who I worked with in my previous role as Minister for Women and Equality.’

Her departmental responsibilities in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office include:

  • Overseas Territories
  • Caribbean/Central America
  • South East Asia
  • Consular policy
  • Oversight of UK Trade and Investment
  • She leads on Africa/Asia in the House of Commons.

Meg was previously the Minister for Women and Equality. She was appointed to that role in May 2005, based initially at the Department for Trade and Industry and since May 2006 the Department for Communities and Local Government.
