Wilberforce House Museum

Sunday, October 7, 2007

Meg recently visited the Wilberforce House Museum in Hull, the birthplace of slavery abolitionist William Wilberforce. The house has recently re-opened after a multi-million-pound refurbishment and now forms the centrepiece of Hull’s commemorations of the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire.

Having taken a leading role in the Government’s programme commemoration the bicentenary she was naturally interested to visit and see for herself what was on offer at the museum. The exhibitions explore the history of slavery, abolition and the legacy of slavery today.

Meg said:

"I was impressed by the wide range of exhibitions which aim to make slavery and abolition relevant to visitors of all ages during this anniversary year."
