New local energy saving appliance

Monday, February 18, 2008

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn recently met with representatives from Disenco, a Sheffield based company. They have developed a new appliance that will reduce an average home’s carbon footprint by up to 4 tonnes a year.

Chief Executive Simon Ambler explained to Meg that the device, known as a Micro Combined Heat and Power appliance, uses wasted heat from the gas boiler element of the system to produce electricity capable of powering up to 70% of an average home’s energy needs at peak times. The company has just completed a successful year of testing with the Carbon Trust and are looking for support to put the appliance into production.

Meg said:

“It was fascinating to hear of the potential benefits that this device could have. It would play a large part to help people make a contribution in tackling climate change, and reduce their energy bills at the same time. I have offered my support and wish them well in the future.

We can all do something to tackle climate change, and I know it worries many people. The issue is one of the biggest topics that my constituents contact me about. I look forward to the government introducing the Climate Change Bill into Parliament shortly to ensure that the UK is a world leader in tackling this issue.”
