Meg met the Commissioner of Police, George Jackson, and members of his senior management team to discuss some of the challenges they face. Particular issues discussed included drug trafficking and the crimes that follow from those seeking to pay for drugs, such as burglary. Bermuda has a population of 60,000 and as well as recruiting police from the island’s population, a number of police officers are recruited from the Caribbean – particularly Jamaica.

“I learnt more about the challenges facing Bermuda. In a relatively small population everybody knows each other, and this can make covert operations by the police difficult. On the other hand there is the opportunity for building good community policing.”
