Celebrating National College Week

Monday, November 10, 2008

The UK’s first ever Colleges week (10th 16th November) is a chance to celebrate and reiterate the work done by colleges for the communities they serve. Investment in colleges has increase by 50% over the last 10 years and more and more young people are entering further education each year.

To help celebrate Colleges week Heeley MP Meg Munn visited Norton College in her constituency. She met with Norton College Principal Alan Stewart who advised her about the successes the college has achieved this year.

Meg said:

“National Colleges Week is a good opportunity to acknowledge the work colleges do in communities and the impact they have in the economy and the wider society. Norton College for example has been recognised as the leading college for journalism in the country and has former students working in the media nationally and locally thanks to the education they received there.

Colleges have received a huge amount of investment in the last ten years and the re-development of Castle College in the city centre clearly shows the importance of further education in Sheffield.”
