Celebrating student’s achievements

Monday, November 24, 2008

On a recent visit to Norton College, Heeley MP Meg Munn was on hand to give out awards and medals to some of its special needs students who had been on a residential visit to Edale in the Peak District National Park. The students overcame mental and physical challenges to participate in rock climbing and abseiling.

Meg said:

‘The achievements of these students’ shows that no matter what disability you have you can take part in a range of activities if you are determined enough. Norton College provides a wide range of courses and training for all abilities, and is a beacon for other colleges in the way it serves the local community. I congratulate the students on their achievements and commend Norton College for its work.’

The Principal of the college, Alan Stewart, said:

‘Norton’s Practical Skills course seeks to give a broad and relevant range of educational opportunities. The Staff and the College are determined to provide an offer that might be usually associated with going out of the city to specialist provision. I was delighted that Meg could attend I know all the staff, students and parents were pleased to see her.’
