Meg visits new animal centre

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

Heeley MP Meg Munn recently visited the new RSPCA animal shelter to inspect its facilities, and cuddle some of its residents. The new shelter is at Stadium Way, and is built on what used to be a car park for the Woodbourn Road Athletic Stadium.

Meg commented:

“This new centre is state of the art, offering a temporary home for cats and dogs in need of love and attention. It was a pleasure meeting the dedicated staffs, who do a terrific job. I wish them, and the resident cats and dogs, the best for the New Year.”

In 2000, the RSPCA branch committee launched a Rebuild Appeal to rebuild their old animal shelter on the Spring Street site, it being in constant need of costly repair. However, they became aware that the proposed route of the Sheffield inner ring road could affect their plans, and a Compulsory Purchase Order was received in 2003. As a result another site was sought and found at Stadium Way.
