Meg backs hearing checks for a happy hearing future

Monday, May 18, 2009

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn joined the call by the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) for people to take the charity’s specially developed hearing check. Their ‘Hearing Matters’ campaign promotes a five-minute hearing check which helps identify whether you have a hearing loss. It is supported by The Co-operative who have chosen RNID as their charity of the year for 2009.

Meg said:

“Many people don’t realise how important their hearing is until they start to lose it. I support the ‘Hearing Matters’ campaign, and urge everyone to look after your hearing. I’m pleased that The Co-operative have chosen RNID as their charity of the year.”

RNID’s Chief Executive, Jackie Ballard, said:

“On average, people take 15 years to deal with their hearing loss and, in that time, a person’s quality of life can be greatly reduced. Our message to people in Sheffield is simple if you’re concerned about your hearing, take our check today and start addressing your hearing loss so you don’t miss out on leading a fulfilling and active life.”

The check, which can be accessed by visiting www.rnid.org.uk/hearingmatters  or calling 0844 800 3838, assesses your ability to hear someone speaking with background noise similar to being in a crowded room.
