Speaking at the regional launch of National Schools Film Week

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Meg attended the regional launch of the National Schools Film Week at the Showroom cinema in the city centre. Now in its 14th year, the festival provides schools across the UK with a free trip to the cinema.  Meg was asked to say a few words about her own experiences with watching films, including the importance of film in education. This was followed by a special preview screening of the film ‘Me and Orson Welles’.

Meg said

“Film is a fantastic way to deliver complex and sometimes challenging issues to a young audience, in a way that is accessible to them. I was very pleased to be asked to come along to the launch and share my own experiences.”

Meg was also able to speak with Ian Wild, the Chief Executive of the Showroom, regarding their plans to renovate and extend the building, as well as creating a new Festival Centre. Their plan is to create a new environment that will provide a cultural infrastructure, as well as facilities, to host a range of cultural and economic outputs for the city.

Meg said

“The planned new Festival Centre would make Sheffield a dynamic centre of film, digital media and creative industries. I wish them all the best with their efforts to secure funding.”
