Meg calls on local people to support charity this Christmas

Monday, December 21, 2009

Meg Munn MP is calling for local residents to dig deep and support local charities in the run up to Christmas. She is hoping for a boost in charitable giving, and supports the Fundraising Standards Board’s ‘Give With Confidence’ campaign.

Meg said:

“Across the country there has been a fall in donations over the past year, yet charitable services are more needed than ever. The charities active in Heeley constituency provide vital services, and we have to do what we can to ensure these organisations are supported through this difficult time.

Traditionally Christmas is a time for giving, I hope that those that can afford to give will do so.”

Alistair McLean, Chief Executive of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) said:

“It has been an incredibly tough year for UK charities. Donations have dropped by as much as 11% on last year.  Fundraisers across the country are doing a fantastic job in raising money during such difficult times.  But, our members report there is greater need that remains unmet.”

The FRSB is the independent self-regulatory body for UK fundraising, requiring its charity members to commit to the highest standards of fundraising. The Fundraising Promise is an assurance of honesty, accountability and transparency in fundraising.

Members display the give with confidence tick logo on their fundraising materials and website.
