Opening for new hospital pharmacy

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn recently opened the new state of the art pharmacy at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. She was taken on a tour of the pharmacy by Damien Child, Chief Pharmacist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The refurbished facility is home to robot ‘ron-o-matic’ - an automated dispensing system. This new equipment has improved turnaround times for prescriptions, provides a more efficient use of medicine stockholding, reduces the risk of dispensing errors and releases pharmacy staff member’s time for ward-based patient care.

An electronic prescription tracking system has also been installed which has the ability to identify and resolve workload bottlenecks. It provides improved turnaround time for prescriptions and in the longer term will enable nursing staff to track progress of their patients’ prescriptions in pharmacy.

Meg said:

“I am proud of the superb medical facilities we have in Sheffield. It was a pleasure to officially open the pharmacy and ‘ron-o-matic’, the new, automated system.

The modern pharmacy and robot will help the pharmacy staff to provide patients with their prescriptions with accuracy and speed. ”

Damian Child, Chief Pharmacist said:

“We pride ourselves in offering only the best pharmacy service to our patients and play an integral part in their care pathway. The new pharmacy allows us to provide an even faster and more efficient service for our patients.”
