Welcoming the Boiler scrappage scheme

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Meg Munn MP welcomes the new national boiler scrappage scheme launched this month. When scrapping an old, inefficient G-rated boiler it is now possible to receive 400 towards a new A-rated boiler or renewable heat technology. New boilers have efficiency levels of 90% or more, resulting in less fuel usage and lower CO2 emissions.

Meg said:

“This scheme is a fantastic way to not only reduce CO2 emissions, but help people make savings on their energy bills. We know that people are more willing to act on energy efficiency measures when they are both good for the environment as well as good for them financially.  By upgrading from a G-rated to an A-rated boiler, a household bill should drop by about a quarter - a saving, on average of around 235 a year.”

With one of the most ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets in the world, the government has estimated that by replacing 125,000 G-rated boilers there will be a saving of about 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.  The scheme will sustain work for the heating industry, save money on fuel bills and upgrade household heating systems.
