Learning about the Bronze, Silver and Gold

Friday, October 15, 2010

Meg Munn, MP for Sheffield Heeley, recently visited the local Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Centre to meet staff and hear about the activities of the scheme. She was pleased to be met by the city’s Lord Mayor, Alan Law, who has been a patron of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Scheme for over 30 years.

Since 1956 the Duke of Edinburgh Awards has been directed toward helping the personal development of young people from all backgrounds. There are three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, and for each of them the young person completes activities in four Sections; volunteering, skills, physical and expedition. In Sheffield alone there are 5,000 young people taking part in the Award Scheme.

Meg said:

“The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme is a real adventure from start to finish. The fantastic stories and photos of the young people from across the city that were on display in the office are evidence of this.

I enjoyed meeting Norman Gill, Manager of the Sheffield operation, and his team. They are all so enthusiastic about this scheme and the benefits it offers young people.”
