Methodist Covenant Service

Friday, January 14, 2011

This year’s Parliamentary Methodist Fellowship annual Covenant Service was held in the Undercroft Chapel in the Palace of Westminster. The Fellowship began holding covenant services in 1995 and each year invites people from the Methodist Church to join them. The Covenant Service is a uniquely Methodist practice started by John Wesley, who invited Methodists to renew their covenant relationship with God.

This year’s preacher was the Reverend Dr Calvin Samuel, Director of the Wesley Study Centre, Durham who spoke about the importance of an inclusive church after which all present were invited to take communion. The service included the traditional covenant prayer which can be found with other information on the Methodist Church’s website at http://www.methodist.org.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=opentogod.content&cmid=1499

Meg, who is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Methodist Group said:

“The Undercroft Chapel is a special place and it was wonderful to share the covenant with other Methodists. We are well known for our singing and the acoustics of the chapel are particularly good, which made for great music.”
