Megs a winner!

Thursday, March 10, 2011

An earlier story on this website explained that local MP Meg Munn recently visited the Ladbrokes shop situated on Chesterfield Road to meet the staff and find out how betting shops work having never visited one before. During the visit Ladbrokes donated a 50 bet to Meg for a charity of her choice and said that they would still donate the 50 to her charity if she lost.

Meg placed the bet on Giorgio Quercus, in a three horsed race which took place later in the day of her visit and Meg’s horse won! The winning bet gave a total of 187.50 for her chosen charity.

The charity Meg chose to donate the money to is Brake the road safety charity. She has worked with them, particularly with her campaign about sleep apnoea, a sleep disorder in which the upper airway repeatedly closes, causing people to wake up briefly in order to breathe. People with sleep apnoea have their pattern of sleep disrupted, leading to tiredness and sleepiness during the day. One study calculated that people with severe sleep apnoea are between six and 15 times more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident.

Meg said:

“I was pleased to hear that my horse had won the race, the money will support Brake and help them keep doing great work.”
