East Hill Secondary School visits Parliament

Tuesday, April 1, 2003

Staff and pupils from East Hill Secondary School for children with special needs visited Meg Munn MP in Parliament on March 11th.

Travelling down by train, they met Celia from the House of Commons Education Unit who showed them round Parliament and explained how the democratic system worked.

At the end of their day, Meg Munn, Labour and Co-operative MP for Sheffield Heeley spent some time with the group and was very pleased to be able to present  the students with "The Princess Diana Award For Young People".  It is awarded "in recognition of students who have made a real difference to their community, school or who have succeeded against the odds".  In this case the students were receiving the award for their help and support of other chldren in the school.
Meg said "I spend a lot of time in London so it is great when young people from Sheffield can visit and find out more about my job. I was delighted  when Keith Jenkins the Headteacher asked me to present  these special students with their certificates that recognise their achievements  and it seemed like a great idea to invite them to Westminster to do it"
