Reaching out into communities

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn recently joined members of Sheffield City Council’s Park/Heeley Area Panel in an initiative to reach out into the communities they represent and address any problems organisations or residents have.

The visit was divided between Heeley Advice Centre and Heeley Green Nursery. Sylvia Marks who helps run the advice centre explained the differences in the type of work they have done since it was established in the 1970s and 1980’s with its work today. She also explained that there are more resources than before, and that people are accessing their services in increasing numbers.

At the nursery Meg and Panel members were shown the new baby care room and the new facilities for pre-school children in partnership with Surestart.

Meg said:

‘These visits are useful for meeting people who are delivering local services, as well as hearing about problems or concerns people have. I was pleased to meet the young children enjoying their new facility in the nursery, and to learn how successful Surestart has been in supporting working families.’

Panel Chair Cllr John Robson remarked:

‘The Park/Heeley Area Panel visits are a development of the constructive working relationship between local representatives, local service providers and residents. All who take part find them worthwhile experiences.’
