Exploring the Countryside in Gleadless

Monday, April 10, 2006

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn recently visited Nether Spring Open Space on Gleadless Valley; joining members of Gleadless Wildlife Trust and Sheffield Wildlife Trust on a nature trail. Meg was shown around some of the work that the Trusts and Sheffield City Council have been doing over a number of years to try and make green open spaces more accessible to the community. These included a specialised play area, managed meadows and woodland walks which are having huge benefits to the community and the environment.

Meg said;

‘The work undertaken on the Valley has been done in partnership with the Wildlife Trusts, the City Council and local community groups. It’s really making the green spaces much more accessible, enjoyable and safer. The woodlands are an important habitat for a range of wildlife, and by managing them responsibly they can be enjoyed for years to come.’

Pictured with Meg are Jane Haigh and Francis Burton from Sheffield Wildlife Trust, John Gilpin from Parks, Woodlands and the Environment (Sheffield City Council) and William Fairhead from Gleadless Valley Wildlife Trust.
