Pillars of the Community

Friday, January 19, 2007

Pillars of a Sheffield community were recently presented with awards at a ceremony organised by the City Council’s Park/Heeley Area Panel. Heeley MP Meg Munn and Panel Chair Cllr John Robson handed out 28 awards to unsung heroes who make a difference in Heeley, Arbourthorne and Norfolk Park.

Meg said:

‘I applaud these individuals for their dedication and hard work in our communities. These awards are a wonderful way of recognising their valuable commitment to others around them. I was pleased to be able to present the awards, and to be able to say thank you on behalf of the communities they live in.’

Cllr Robson added:

‘I was delighted that we were able to say a warm thank you to so many deserving people. Communities can stand or fall based on the people in the area who are willing to devote a little time to others, and I am proud to say the Park and Heeley area has so many people willing to do just that.’

Those who were given the awards included 19 year old Mark Swift and Danny O’Melia, who left school with no qualifications but are now community stewards for Heeley Development Trust, working on projects with schools and community groups.
