Decent Homes in Sheffield Heeley

Saturday, April 28, 2007

The multi-million pound government ‘Decent Homes’ scheme has received much applause from residents as local MP Meg Munn found out on a recent visit. The scheme is bringing every council house to modern living standards by 2010 by replacing windows, doors, kitchens and bathrooms - all fitted to the resident’s needs and specifications.

The project is being spearheaded in Sheffield by Sheffield Homes, who are the ALMO (Arms Length Management Organisation) of Sheffield City Council. Their role is to run the social housing in Sheffield on behalf of the Council. Sheffield Homes was the first ALMO in England and has received numerous awards for their high quality service delivery.

Meg said:

‘The work that has been done is excellent and is clearly appreciated by residents. What was also clear from speaking to them was their high regard for the workmen who carried out the improvements. The pleasant attitude and professionalism of the workman was commented on many times - I praise Sheffield Homes and contractors for carrying out the work with the care of the resident in mind.’

Meg is pictured with a delighted resident showing off her new kitchen in Gleadless Valley.
