Looking for a Woodthorpe Lollypop

Monday, May 14, 2007

Woodthorpe Community Primary School has been looking for a lollypop man/woman. Shannen Nobrega, a Year 6 pupil and School Councillor, contacted local MP Meg Munn for help. Meg visited the school to help lead a campaign to find the right person to escort children across a busy road to school.

Meg said:

‘I was sorry to hear that Woodthorpe Primary School didn’t have a crossing patrol officer, it was good of Shannen to let me know. I urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.’

The absence of a lollypop man/woman has highlighted the issue of road safety at the school. The pupils have been undertaking traffic observations - they found on one occasion that drivers of 33 out of 80 cars observed were not wearing seat belts. Pupils are also due to undertake a speeding exercise in June with officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Area Team using speed guns.

If you are able to assist Woodthorpe Primary Pupils please contact the school on 239 9167.
