A new vision for Woodthorpe

Monday, September 3, 2007

Earlier this year tenants in Woodthorpe voted for their homes to transfer from Sheffield Homes, the Arms Length Management Organisation of Sheffield City Council, to the Acis Group. As part of the transfer a sum of 24 million became available for redevelopment of the homes involved. Acis will use this money as part of the programme bringing the homes up to the government’s Decent Homes scheme.

Local MP Meg Munn met with representatives of the Acis Group at their show house at 234 Hastilar Road South, Woodthorpe. The redevelopment scheme will ensure every house under Acis management will have new windows and doors, central heating, damp proofing and resurfaced paths. In addition the Acis group will improve the local environment such as tree management, off street parking and improved street lighting.

Meg said:

‘I was impressed with the show house and with Acis’s plans for the estate. Woodthorpe has sometimes felt like a forgotten estate, but with Acis’s help residents should see a huge transformation. This programme of work, in conjunction with the new Woodthorpe Primary School, will help make Woodthorpe become an area where residents can feel truly at home again.’
